Location: Wilmington, MA General Description: Seeking a talented and self-motivated metal processing engineer to analyze, model, and develop Seurat’s proprietary metal 3D process. The ideal candidate incorporates in-depth knowledge in material sciences and metal processing with area printing-based LPBF (laser powder bed fusion) technologies to fundamentally improve materials qualities. The metal processing engineer is a key member of the process engineering team and closely collaborates with process development engineers, design engineers, and technologists to develop and improve highly complex industrial-scale materials processing processes. Qualifications: Analyze and model critical process physics (thermal, flow, phase transfer, grain formation, etc.) of Seurat’s proprietary metal 3D printing process based on area printing technology. Use modeling and analytical results to identify and formulate original and actionable process improvement ideas and work closely with process development engineers, systems engineers, materials scientists, and technologists to design and execute experiments and analyze experimental results Work with material scientists and application engineers to characterize materials Independent and original thinker Open-minded collaborator in a multidisciplinary team environment Strong communications skills, both verbal and written. Requirements:M.S. or Ph.D. in physicals, materials science, or engineering.5+ years of experience in engineering and/or manufacturing-related field. Travel requirement up to 15%. Preferred Experiences: In-depth technical background in process physics that involves material melting and melt phase crystal growth is required or strongly preferred. Experience in metal and alloy materials (Fe, Al, Ti, Copper, Ni, CoCr, etc.) is strongly preferred. Experience in welding, casting, or general melt phase materials processing is strongly preferred. Strong technical background in heat transfer and flow analyses. Experience in physical modeling software (COMSOL, ANSYS, FLOW-3D, etc.) is preferred.Knowledge in laser-matter interaction, chemistry, and solid mechanics. Seniority Level
